Australia 1931: The mixed-race girls Molly (14), Gracie (10) and Daisy (8) are taken away from their aboriginal mother to one of the state’s re-education camps to be trained as servants. When the opportunity arises the girls escape from the camp and try to get home. For nine weeks and almost 1.500 miles they follow the ‚rabbit proof fence’ that protects Australia’s farmland. All the time they are closely followed by the police. The film that combines drama and politics to a thrilling roadmovie in the vast landscapes of Australia, is based on a true story.
