Der englische Indieregisseur Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) erzählt in „Slumdog Millionaire“ eine furiose Geschichte zwischen Hollywood und Bollywood, Sozialdrama, Krimi und Melodram. Der indische Waisenjunge Jamal hat es in die Endrunde von „Wer wird Millionär“ geschafft. Nur noch eine einzige Frage und er hat gewonnen. Aber der niederträchtige Quizmaster setzt alles daran, seinen Sieg zu verhindern. Er verdächtigt Jamal des Betrugs und lässt ihn verhaften.
